"Volunteer Spring/Summer '08 for just £50 a week!"
(Offer Subject to Availability)
Finding any kind of reading material along the Arajuno Road is difficult, anything that is available has been read by cover to cover by anyone who can get there hands on it. The local communities do not have the resources to buy books and getting reading materials, even newspapers, is difficult as the nearest town can be over an hour away. We believe that reading and literacy plays an important in modern life and work, and an even more crucial role in education. By creating a mobile library which services all of the schools along the Arajuno Road, we can bring books to over 400 children.
What it is
The mobile library will visit each of the schools along the Arajuno Road once a week, giving children the chance to loan a book from a much wider choice than if there was a library for each school. The books will be educational and for fun, giving the children more than just there school textbooks. The campaign has been set up to purchase and collect as many books as we can to give the children the largest choice possible.
How it will work
Through donations from our Buy a Book campaign the Arajuno Road Project will buy books and collect any books donated to form a library for every school along the Arajuno Road. Once a week we will visit each of the schools and children will be able to loan and reserve books to take home and read.
What We Need
We need books, either through donations of books or through our buy a Book campaign. £3 will buy a new book for the campaign, which will be purchased in Ecuador. The project needs books in Spanish of any level or basic and pre-school English childrens books. Our target is to have 1000 books available, eventually leading to a library being created in each school with a sharing network being established between the schools.
