- Having volunteered in South and Central America, Nico was inspired to set up Great Aves and the Arajuno Road Project whilst volunteering in the Santa Martha Animal Rescue Centre in Ecuador. Aside from his time traveling and volunteering, Nico lives in England, and studied Sociology at the University of Sheffield. He created the Arajuno Road Project to offer a more structured and rewarding volunteer experience, giving greater benefits to both the volunteers and the communities in which they work. Nico is the director of Great Aves and oversees the administration and running of the organisation from the UK and is involved with the development of the projects and the creation of new projects.

- Monica was born and lives in the Km35 community on the Arajuno Road. She was a pupil at the local school has strong links with the local community. Having grown up in the jungle her knowledge of local flora and fauna are impressive and provided invaluable whilst working at the Santa Martha Animal Rescue Centre. Monica is the projects link with the local community and her work as volunteer coordinator and running the volunteer house ensures that both the volunteers and local schools benefit as much as possible from the Arajuno Road Project.
