"Our overseas volunteer projects can double or even triple the annual income of a school"
What we do
Great Aves is registered in England, and all of our administration work takes place in the UK. The projects themselves are managed on site to ensure all of the work is as relevant as possible, and to keep operating costs low, allowing Great Aves to make a bigger difference.
There are many people who are keen to help with our campaigns and projects, but are unable to make the long trip across the globe to the Amazon. Great Aves has volunteer opportunities in the UK that allow people to volunteer from home, and they form a vital part of the organisation. Volunteers offer either a few hours a month, a one-off contribution, to as much time as they can afford.
Fundraising
Fundraising is at the core of our campaigns. The Buy a Book campaign, aimed at the creation of a mobile library needs donations of books and funds to buy books. Fundraising can be done through special events such as fundraising nights like a quiz at your local pub, speed-dating, a club-night or gig, or a coffee morning. Sponsoring is a popular method to raise money, from fun runs to a sponsored silence or even shaving your head! Fundraising can also come through business sponsorship or donations of equipment. It is also becoming increasing popular for schools and offices to donating part of the proceeds of a charity day (such as comic relief or children in need) to a campaign.
Promotion
For any organisation to be seen and be successful, efficient promotion is essential. Through promoting our projects and campaigns volunteers can help raise our profile, leading to more donations and more people helping in both the Amazon and from home. Promotion can take place online, amongst friends, at work or on the street. Great Aves has many associations online, and special links with some UK universities, and is looking to increase associations with businesses.
Administration
Those with specialist knowledge help make a massive contribution to Great Aves. The legal costs of running an organisation can be significant and help in these areas has helped us achieve what we have so far. We have had Graphic designers design our logos, an architect make the plans for our volunteer house, and web design company to make www.YouVolunteer.org, to give a few examples of how volunteers have helped.
